چکیده

Concerns about the potential for residual antibiotics can cause adverse health effects consumers. The use of inappropriate is feared to lead antimicrobial resistance by pathogens. New sources antibacterial be obtained from bioactive compounds seaweed, one which a H. macroloba type. research objective was determine effectiveness seaweed extract inhibition against indigenous bacteria in fish. samples taken waters Pane Island. extraction process carried out maceration method with methanol p.a solvent. secondary metabolites were phytochemical test. Inhibition test Kirby-Bauer agar diffusion through experimental adding DMSO. have metabolite compounds, there are alkaloids and flavonoids function as an inhibitory force bacteria. Different treatment resulted significant effect on Vibrio parahemolitycus value 10.73 mm. Meanwhile, different Aeromonas hydrophyla salmonicida stated no increasing zone diameter. However, it directly proportional diameter, most effective at concentration 100%.

Clionasterol Isolated from Halimeda Macroloba

The triterpenoid clionasterol (1), a 29 carbon structure compound was isolated from the less polar extract (20% EtOAc in hexanes) of the green alga Halimeda macroloba collected at Shimoni near Mombasa, Kenya. The structure and relative stereochemistry of this compound was elucidated by spectroscopic data, mainly NMR and mass spectrometry. This metabolite was inactive against DLD-1 cells on the ...

Rapid Mass Movement of Chloroplasts during Segment Formation of the Calcifying Siphonalean Green Alga, Halimeda macroloba

BACKGROUND The calcifying siphonalean green alga, Halimeda macroloba is abundant on coral reefs and is important in the production of calcium carbonate sediments. The process by which new green segments are formed over-night is revealed here for the first time. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Growth of new segments was visualised by epifluorescence and confocal microscopy and by pulse amplitud...

Free phenolic acids from the seaweed Halimeda monile with antioxidant effect protecting against liver injury.

Phenolic compounds are found in seaweed species together with other substances presenting antioxidant activity. The objective of this work was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the free phenolic acids (FPA) fraction from the seaweed Halimeda monile, and its activity to protect the expression of hepatic enzymes in rats, under experimental CCl4 injury. The antioxidant activity was measured ...

Antimicrobial Effect of Filipendula ulmaria Plant Extract Against Selected Foodborne Pathogenic and Spoilage Bacteria in Laboratory Media, Fish Flesh and Fish Roe Product

Water-methanol extract from Filipendula ulmaria contains a variety of phenolic compounds, such as caffeic, p-coumaric and vanillic acid, myricetin, etc, which demonstrate antibacterial activity. Monitoring this activity in the broth using absorbance measurements showed that species of the Enterobacteriaceae family were more resistant than other Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria tested. A...
